How To Activate Globe Prepaid BIS

If you are new to this, you probably are confused about all this BIS thing. BIS stands for Blackberry Internet Service. This allows your Blackberry phone to access the internet wherever you are. How to activate it varies from Telco to Telco. This entry will give you the step-by-step process on how to activate your Globe Prepaid BIS.
  • You are using an active Globe prepaid SIM and there should be a network signal.
  • Sufficient credits are required for the BIS registration.
  • On your phone, go to OPTION then “MOBILE NETWORK”. Make sure that Data Services is “ON”

Now there are different Globe Subscriptions available, you may choose any of the following and an SMS to 8888:

  1. For P50 credits, send “BB ON 50”
  2. For P220 credits, send “BB ON 220”
  3. For P120 credits, send “BB ON 1200”
  • Wait for the “Terms and Conditions….” SMS, and then reply by typing in “BB YES”

Once you receive “Thank you for accepting…..”, this means that your BIS activation is being processed. You will know that your BIS has been activated when your the networks “gprs” or “edge” or “3g” becomes capitalized: GPRS or EDGE or 3G.

If your BIS registration/subscription has not been activated in 15 minutes, you may do the following:

  • Reboot your device by doing a battery pull; physically removing your battery from your Blackberry phone.
  • If that doesn’t work, wait for another 15 minutes and repeat the battery pull.

Normally, your BIS registration should be activated within the same hour, but if it doesn’t, just repeat the battery pull every 15 minutes. The battery pull resets your connection from the Globe network, in turn, it helps activate your BIS registration faster.

  • To verify if your subscription is active, send a text message to 8888, by typing in “BB STATUS”, P1 per text message sent. You should receive a reply indicating that your BB service is active. If otherwise, do a battery pull after 10 seconds.

Once your BIS is activated, you may use the built-in browser on your Blackberry and go to “mobile.blackberry.com” – it provides links for you to download apps like Facebook, Yahoo Messenger, as well as other Blackberry apps. Make sure that your browser is configured to use the “Internet Browser”.

If you want to setup your email on your Blackberry, head over to globe.blackberry.com and register your phone and your email address. Your IMEI and your PIN is needed to do this. To find these info, on your phone, go to OPTIONS, then STATUS. Your unique PIN and IMEI are there. Your PIN is also used for your Blackberry Messenger (BBM), the unique PIN allows other users to add you as their BBM contact. After setting up your email address, click HELP and choose “Send Service Books”. You will then start receiving new emails on your Blackberry.

If you want to install more Blackberry Apps on your phone, you have to download the Blackberry App World.

For more questions about BIS, you may head on over to Globe’s website.

What kind of problem are you having? Is it a software problem or a phone problem? If it’s a phone problem, try bringing your phone to the store where you bought it.

Is this a Globe account? If it is, contact Globe’s technical support. Good luck!

I’m a Globe Prepaid user. But we have WiFi at home. How do I use BBM via WiFi?

    • For this to work, I believe that you have to be subscribed to BIS. Although, I am able to use BBM via wi-fi in Singapore.

I am now on BB Social under Globe’s prepaid promo. I’m trying to browse using wifi… My BB 8520 is displaying the Wifi sign and beside the network provider’s name- globe, on my screen is the wifi network’s name. Still when I try to get to a website using the browser, I get an error message saying “not supported by data plan” or something like that. I can’t give you the exact error message coz it’s now written in some foreign language. This happened when I downloaded the app store. What can I do regarding both issues? Thanks!

    • Make sure that your browser is set to “Internet Browser”.
Go to Options > Browser Configuration > Internet Browser — then Save.

I believe that you have sign-up again with this new phone so that Globe would recognize your new PIN.

i bought a blackberry and tried globe’s bb social service. Sent BB Social On to 8888. Then I received message saying that i can start using bb social service. But then, i still cannot run my bbm, twitter, and Facebook. I sent out invites to people in bbm but they told me they do not get any. How do i go about this? I did reset my phone but it didn’t work.

Im having d same issue. I did security wipe. Hard and soft reset. Uninstall and reinstall my apps. Im still having issues. I run a diagnostic test in my bb and got a result that my bis is not active. I have wasted my 300 load. Talk to tech support but they didnt help. So im planning to send a complaint in ntc na lang. Just imagine how many people experience dis issue with them, means a lot of money was stolen from people who didnt get the service at all.

I bought a new Blackberry 9360 phone, but used the Globe sim I had used in my previous phone (which was a Nokia C6). I’m having a lot of problems regarding this phone’s GPRS/internet settings. I’m on prepaid, and following several posts I found on the internet, I subscribed to BB MAX for a day, just to check it out. Globe just ate up my credits, and whenever I try opening FB or Twitter, it just says that I am “currently on a service plan that does not support this app.” BBM also does not work at all. I also tried sending GO to 2951 (o receive GPRS settings) and it just says that my phone “is not compatible to receive this setting.” My APN is already set to http.globe.com.ph and I’ve chosen “ON” for my data services so I don’t know what the heck the problem is. Should I change my sim card? Or is the problem with Blackberry phone (which I bought online). Please help. I can’t help feeling that my BB is not living up to its full potential. 😦

    • If, by following all the steps, this doesn’t work, please contact Globe directly. I’m pretty sure your phone is okay.

hi.. i am having issues registering to globe.blackberry.com error message was unable to register using the browser. Use email setup on your phone so I did so. After that I did try to login using the account that I have created and I was not able to log in. I did try to use the forget password option and entered my BB Pin and a message was sent to me that I was not register.

BTW i am a post paid user. I was able to link my yahoo and gmail email but I am not able to register my office mail. TIA

    • If you were able to setup your Gmail and Yahoo account on your BB, there’s no reason why your work email shouldn’t work. There might be settings that your IT dept can assist you with in configuring your work email to BB’s email client.

  7. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but
I find this topic to be actually something which I think
I would never understand. It seems too complex and very broad for me.
I’m looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get
    the hang of it!
